I just found this cheat which might be helpful. I haven't tried this cheat myself so just be warry.

This cheat is for 50.000 simoleons or more.
Ok when you get to the goal (you might need to restart) build a themed house they give you 20 lp's (lifetime points) so if you buy the sim cinema and sell all furniture in the house (the stuff is really expensive) you will have at least 40,000 simoleons
Just collect loads of lp's and do it over and over for you can build really nice houses and cool houses for you can have really cool sims!!!!!
And for start of money just sell parts of the house and put cheap furniture
Ps it also works for the geek house, the mansion, dark secret and family home
